Its steeple stands 265 ft (81 m), making it one of the tallest churches in the United States. What makes it most unique is its gold statue of Mary erected at the very top of the church.
As Taylor transitioned from a rural farming community to a Detroit suburb in the 1950s and early 1960s, a group of people were sent out by Allen Park Presbyterian Church to start a new church in Taylor.
With 16 members it was the sixth Presbyterian Church organized in the Detroit area. The first, posted on the presbytery’s website on April 20, was with Sharon Moore, a ruling elder at St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Detroit, which celebrated its 100 th anniversary last year.
It was built in 1911 in the Gothic revival style by the architect Sidney Badgley. The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1971.
